Dear Parents of High School Athletes,
The Colorado High School Activities Association requires that all student-athletes have an annual pre-participation physical exam (PPE) to participate in interscholastic athletics. The necessary form for the PPE is available at your school’s athletic office or on the District 51 athletics webpage. The PPE is valid for one calendar year. We encourage your student(s) to have an annual physical exam with their primary care provider. With most insurance plans, one preventative care visit per year is free or at very low cost.
In years past, many physicians of Grand Junction have volunteered to provide free participation exams, primarily intended for those students that could not afford to see their primary care doctors. Under the new Affordable Care Act, students should now be able to obtain health insurance coverage.
There will be no free pre-participation exams offered by Mesa County Physicians this spring.
Please plan accordingly to make sure your son/daughter has their physical on file with their school’s athletic office prior to the start of the sports season. Fall sports start date is August 17th, winter sports start November 12th and spring sports start February 29th.
